Hello All,

As we witnessed at the recent Clare county council meeting our local representatives have listened to our concerns and acted upon them. The ban by the council and an amendment to the County Development Plan do not secure an outright ban on fracking in Clare but have sent a strong signal to the Department of Energy& Communications that unregulated fracking is unwelcome here. The Department have contacted Clare County council to discuss the happenings. The West is awake… and now to the East! Our  awareness- raising and lobbying has been effective at county level but we mustn’t stop here. Your continued support is vital.

2. Fracking banned in Bulgaria.

Good news! Last week saw the oil giant Chevron being refused permission to drill in Bulgaria when the Government voted to ban fracking.

Please write to Minister for Energy&Communications Pat Rabitte (whose department deal with fracking licences) to express your stance on the matter.

5.Upcoming screenings of Gasland& information evenings


Members of the group have volunteered to organise screenings of Gasland in their local pubs& community centres. This is wonderful as the few of us who started it can’t get to all parishes. If you would like to do so also let us know& we’ll get you a copy of the DVD& help you with advertising etc.

6.Donations welcome

The recent posting of 6,500 information leaflets to houses in West Clare cost €1500. Printing posters is an on-going cost so any donations are very welcome. There are collection points in The Graney, Health food shop, Scariff, Meanwell Wholefoods, Ennis and The Butter Market Café, Kilrush. If there is no container on the counter just ask a staff member or contact us at Clare Fracking Concerned if you would like to donate directly. Thank you.
